Okay, iPhone is obviously a target for cloning, here is a list of iPhone wannabe that have pop-up here and there (China is definitely the King of copyright infringements, there is nothing that can’t be copied) :
The actors in the commercial are so fake…
Here is how much the HiPhone cost : 2380 Yen, that is about US$350, but they also include a led case, a 1 GB MicroSD, as well as 30,000 movies!! I guess these movies aren’t worth anything in China.
Here is where you can actually buy some of them, but let’s face it, the REAL iPhone rulez already, why the hell would anyone wants to save 1-200 bucks for fake ones that don’t necessary works the same. Don’t forget Apple will continue innovate, with the upcoming SDK, you will start to see a big pour out of new and exciting apps! Can’t wait…
If anyone find more clones, let me know, I will post them up here…
Even though Geohot is the king of hacks, Zibri’s ZiPhone that uses Geohot’s Gunlock bundles a whole bunch of stuff into a nice simple package is the most popular iphone jailbreak/unlock out there, check out his blog : http://www.ziphone.org/
I have already seen a few 1.1.3 16gb unlock iphones around the company here.
I hope that Geohot and Zibri can just work together, stop the argument, have some fun and enjoy the ride….
Okay, this is definitely possible, and does not look too difficult, just a touch hairy when opening the case, I probably won’t have to worry about it at least a few years down the road.
Warning : Doing this is of course voids your iPhone warranty. But I guess who cares, since they don’t even sell them in Canada!
But yes, I finally got my iPhone for xmas. Bought it during Thanksgiving at an AT&T store in Troy near Detroit. It’s got the 1.1.1 firmware, didn’t realized at the time. But all newer 1.1.2 firmware is currently still not able to unlock. I tried to get another one for my friend a month later, and couldn’t find one with 1.1.1.
Phew!
Anyhow, did some research, found out the easiest way to unlock, that took me around 10mins, with no computer required, just WIFI! Dead simple…
I’m enjoying the phone alot, there were bunch of apps that I can install, but really hope when Apple release the SDK next February, there would be floods of new apps to play with.
If you are lucky to get the 1.1.1 iphone, here is the simple instructions similar to what I’ve used : http://iphone.unlock.no/
I’ve been waiting and waiting for a legit iPhone in Canada, but if rumors is true that it will come at a price tag of $799 with contract, then I will pass.
Unlocked iPhone is going around at $600 street price, with Canada and US$ at parity, this would be simply a case of gouging, I have enough of this crap, and would say see ya Rogers.
Although I will end up using Rogers network anyway for their monopoly in GSM. =(
There was a lot of people ridiculing the idea of Apple’s new Ringtones service.
Their main point being having to pay twice for something you own. Well, those who have bought ringtones from anywhere else in the first place are idiots anyways.
BUT everyone have a right to buy whatever they wish, if I have a gazillion bucks, I wouldn’t care less what you call me, I’ll pay that extra. Why, because Apple did created the software to make it easy for me to edit and create my own personalized ringtone, it’s convenient.
I don’t see why people should complain. If someone is stupid enough to buy a ringtones in the first place off other ringtone websites, then decided to buy the songs, they still have to pay twice. Also if I couldn’t careless about a few bucks worth of ringtones (how many ringtones you gonna need anyways?), I would pay that just to get my personalized DIY ringtones which I couldn’t get from other ringtones services in the first place. It’s really your choice, and Apple is just giving you this better service/convenience to get what you want, so why complain when Apple is not really forcing you to buy?
What’s a blog without any iPhone news? So here is one…
Right after Apple has added YouTube feature on AppleTV, iPhone will also have it’s own little YouTube application when they launch on June 29th. The only thing is that it will only play YouTube video that are re-encoded in h.264, which currently covers about 10,000 video and the rest by fall
According to MacRumors, Apple has special h.264 decoder chip, which helps on battery life, the same reason why they avoided Flash Video which requires more processing power/battery.
Here is a demo on how YouTube is being used on an iPhone.
